REUNION 2008 - Lake Wateree, SC

The Corps de Congoleese - Third Annual Reunion

The Corps Reunion for 2008 will be the 18th, 19th and 20th of April, 2008.  Location is Lake Wateree, South Carolina.  Located in the Midlands of South Carolina, the Reunion site is 12 miles from historic (Revolutionary War) and steeplechase-rich Camden and 30 miles from the state capital of Columbia. Within minutes you can find shopping, touring, horseback riding, and movie-going opportunities. The area also offers excellent restaurants, sightseeing and museum opportunities. Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, rated one of the nation's ten best, is only an hour away.

The Midlands area also is only a two-hour's drive to both the Carolina coast and mountains, as well as a two-hour's drive to historic Charleston, home of the recently resurrected Confederate submarine Hunley.  Shaw Air Force Base and Fort Jackson, SC are in the near vicinity for those needing access to commissaries, post /base exchanges or Class VI facilities.  Early arrivals might consider a day trip to Danville, VA to the Armored Forces Museum and the M60A2 on display there.

The Corps has rented four houses on the Lake including a Pickle Palace and Pavilion.  We have arranged rentals for early arrivals on the 15th through the 21st of April.  We have now rented all the houses available and any additions will be housed in the Corps Guest House (ie the nearby Ramada Inn).  If you have overflow attendees, do not make room reservations until you check with the Carolina Committee or the Commander.  The Corps CSM has worked discounts at the Ramada, but only if we rent in a block.  Please keep us posted on your travel plans.  Remember if you are flying, make your flight into the Columbia, SC airport so we can arrange your pickup.

Maps and directions will be provided for anyone utilizing ground transportation.  Our Carolina Crew is doing an outstanding job and they have all our appreciation.  Their meritorious efforts will not go un-rewarded!  The Commander has completed plans for Saturday night dinner.  A big thank you to Bruce and Ana for hooking the Commander up with Little Pigs Barbecue!.

There is a multitude of activities for your recreation.  Activities (on site or nearby): ON-SITE: Basketball, Horseshoes, Fishing, Wildlife Viewing, Swimming, Boating, Water-skiing, Sailing, Jet-skiing. OFF-SITE: Restaurants,  Golfing, Horseback-riding, Shopping, Sightseeing, Tennis
