January, 2008 - For What Is Your Life?
Good morning to you all
hope this Lord's day finds each of you doing well. Drew is recovering
find, Blue's Dad is fairing well and is hopeful, and Ken we need another
up date on so keep all in your prayers. Happy birthday to Bruce and Mom
they turn another year older tomorrow Bruce is claiming the big 50 and
Mom isn't saying.
I'd like each of you to
turn your Bible's to James 4:13-17 for it is the text for today's
lesson. Verse 13 reminds us that none of us can tell the future. We make
plans some short term some long term. Most of us have lived long enough
to know that while most of the time we have the opportunity to do as we
have planned things can and have changed in a moment's notice without
warning. 9-11 changed the world our children will grow up in forever in
a moment without warning and beyond our control. Last summer after a
year of planning after completing the first 1000 miles of our journey
our trip to Montana was canceled. So we understand that things can
change in the twinkle of an eye.
Verse 14 remands’ us
that life is short and it vanisheth away. Couple these two facts
together and none of us know how short our life can be or how long it
will be, but in any case compared to eternity it will be short.
So what is the bottom
line verse 15-17? As we make our plans we should acknowledge that if
the good Lord is willing we will do such and such, never and I mean
never forget that while we are in control of our actions and reactions
we are not in control. Secondly, not to boast of our accomplishments
because even though we accomplished through our efforts, we did so with
the Lord's blessings for it could have turned out different. Finally, we
should always do the good that we know to do for the opportunity to do
the good we know to do is vanishing away like our life. Take advantage
of this day and praise the Lord and love your families and up lift your
neighbor. For the time is slipping away perhaps faster than you think.
30 seconds after you die the only thing that matters is if you hear well
done thy good a faithful servant or thou shall be well done.
