Chaplain's Corner

Welcome to the Chaplain's Corner or the Pickle Pulpit.  Our Corps Chaplain William Tex Eddins uses this portion of the website to give us guidance from a source greater than ourselves.   Every Sunday, Chaplain Eddins send us a message to help us start our week .  On this page,  you will find his current message and links to all his previous message series.  Our Chaplain is continuing a military tradition that we are all proud of - ministering to the troops.  We are also proud that our Chaplain was the Top Gun in USAREUR, 1979.  Chaplain Eddins was also the host of our first reunion.  Please open your hearts, minds and Bibles to this weeks lesson:

27th of April, 2008 - Charity

Charity

It's good to be back to writing the Chaplain's corner I took a couple of weeks off before the reunion. Wasn't that simply the greatest? John has reminded us of a lengthy prayer list remember all. I am especially mindful of Kelly Waymire.  Her surgery went fine according to what I can learn, but recovery is painful and can be long. So there is plenty to pray for - on Kelly’s behalf and the same is true with Jack's son. I hope the two old men, Jack and Lightning, get a clean bill of health soon. Never forget our solders (i.e. Laney's Son) in harms way. Bro. John Eddins can be as safely removed from our prayer list as anyone can.

Now for the lesson of the week turn your New Testament to 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 the lesson is entitled charity and old English term more commonly translated love. Verses 1-3 remind us that love is an emotion that one can do acts of love without the emotion. The Lord expects us to actually care for one another. Notice verse 3 "And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing."

Verses 4-7 gives us God's definition of love I am always amazed that God chose Longsuffering as his first of many words he uses to define love . If you will take the time to read slowly one thing that will stand out is love is not about self it's always what's best for others to help you understand perhaps you should read these verses from a parent-child view point. Those of you that are parents can easily relate to it. Then make that kind of love show thru to others. Reading this definition verse 6 points out that love is not tolerate of evil even if it comes from those we love. "Rejoiceth not in iniquity"

Verses 8-13 Loves is the teaching that will stand until the end of time. The New Testament Christian had miraculous gifts imparted to most of them earlier in chapter 12 the first century Christians was fighting over which of the gift's was the best to have so chapter 13 is written in light of the division that was going on in Corinth by verse 8 he is telling the brethren that this time of miraculous gift's was coming to an end "Charity never faileth;"..."tongues they shall cease;" Verse 10 "that which is in part shall be done away" Verse 13 when the miraculous gift's of the first century come to an end three thing will remain faith , hope, and charity (love) "but the greatest of these is charity (love)".

Love yaw'll,

Chaplain Tex
